Open from: The institute can be visited only on Saturdays. However, on other days, prior permission of the Director of the Institute is required

Dolphin's Nose: Located around 10 kms from Coonoor, the Dolphin's Nose is actually a rock shaped like, obviously, the nose of a dolphin. It offers excellent views of the surroundings and the city and is a frequented picnic spot. In fact, not only the vast expanse of the Nilgiri hills, catch extremely beautiful views of the Catherine Falls.

Catherine Waterfalls: A spectacular sight that can be seen from the Dolphin's Nose. Catherine Waterfalls gushes down about 250 ft in and is accessible through Kotagiri.

Wellington Staff College: Situated on one side of Coonoor is the Wellington Cantonment, home to the Wellington Defence Services Staff College. This military town is made of rows and rows of barracks and the headquarters of the Madras Regimental Centre, the Indian Army and the Defence Staff College are located here. The Wellington Golf Course is another popular location especially for the Bollywood and is frequented by film shoots. Located beyond the golf course is a trek spot Hidden Valley and the British church St George's Church.

Pomological Station: This is one of the three experimental fruit gardens in the Nilgris maintained by the Horticultural Department. The other two are Burliar and Kallar on the Coonoor - Mettupalayam Ghat road. Apples, Plums, Peaches, Lemons, Apricots Pomegranates etc., are grown here for the purpose of research.

Droog: Located at a distance of 13 km from Coonoor, Droog is actually the ruins of a fort once used by Tipu Sultan in the 16th century. The 4 km trek to the fort is long and arduous, and the view offered from the top is totally worth it!
