For the best selection of spices, head out to the wholesale spice market at Big Bazaar and the Court Road Spice Market. Mithai Theruvu or Sweet Meat Street is one of the busiest streets in Kozhikode and the best place to buy some Kozhikodan Halwa, made in coconut oil and seasoned with dry fruits. The region is as popular for its local handicrafts such as rosewood and buffalo horn carvings, coir products and miniature snake boats. The best places to get these are the supermarket on Manvoor Road, CSI at Mananchira and Big Bazaar. Pick up some metal artifacts from Chembotti Theruvu and also get yourself the extremely well-made Urus (images of boats in bottles) from Beypore. Clothes, both muslin and handloom, are also available at the main market areas.
